IMS Asia Pacific Rim Meeting

The seventh meeting of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics Asia Pacific Rim Meeting (IMS-APRM) will take place in Hong Kong in 2026. This event will serve as an exceptional global forum for scientific communication and collaboration among researchers from Asia and the Pacific Rim. It aims to foster connections and partnerships between researchers in this region and colleagues from around the world. Building upon the successes of previous meetings, the seventh meeting will enhance our ongoing efforts to fulfill our shared mission within the statistical profession.

Participants can look forward to a diverse program featuring keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops led by prominent experts in the field of statistics. The conference will cover a wide range of topics, including theoretical advancements, innovative methodologies, and practical applications in various domains. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations. Professor Andrea Montanari

Professor Andrea Montanari

Personal Website

Andrea Montanari is the John D. and Sigrid Banks Professor in Statistics and Mathematics at Stanford University. He received a Laurea degree in Physics in 1997, and a Ph.D. in Physics in 2001 (both from Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, Italy). He has been post-doctoral fellow at Laboratoire de Physique Théorique de l'Ecole Normale Supérieure (LPTENS), Paris, France, and the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, Berkeley, USA. From 2002 to 2010 he was Chargé de Recherche (with Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, CNRS) at LPTENS. He joined Stanford in 2006, and from 2006 to 2023 has been a faculty in Departments of Electrical Engineering and Statistics. From 2021 to 2023, he was the Robert and Barbara Kleist Professor in the School of Engineering.

He was awarded the CNRS bronze medal for theoretical physics in 2006, the National Science Foundation CAREER award in 2008, the Okawa Foundation Research Grant in 2013, the James L. Massey Award of the Information Theory Society in 2016, and the Le Cam Prize of the French Statistical Society in 2020. He received the ACM SIGMETRICS best paper award in 2008 and the Applied Probability Society Best Publication Award in 2015. He was elevated to IEEE Fellow in 2017 and IMS Fellow in 2020. He was an invited sectional speaker at the 2020 International Congress of Mathematicians and an IMS Medallion lecturer for the 2020 Bernoulli-IMS World Congress.

Hans-Georg Müller is Distinguished Professor of Statistics at UC Davis. He received an M.D. in 1982 from University of Heidelberg, a Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1983 from University of Ulm, Germany, Habilitation in Biostatistics in 1986 from University of Marburg, Germany. He has been Assistant Professor at University of Marburg from 1984 to 1987, Associate Professor at University of Erlangen-Nürnberg from 1987 to 1988. He joined Department of Statistics at UC Davis in 1988.

He became an Elected Member of International Statistical Institute since 1989, a Fellow of Institute of Mathematical Statistics since 1993, a Fellow of American Statistical Association since 1995, a Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science since 2006. Other honors and awards include: Myrto Lefkopoulou Lecture, Harvard University, 1995; Medallion Lecture, Institute of Mathematical Statistics, 2007; Humboldt Senior Research Award, 2017; Noether Senior Scholar Award, 2017; IMS Rietz Lecture and Award, 2022; Nieuwland Lecture, Notre Dame, 2023; Rubin Lecture, Purdue, 2024.

The conference is being organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), in collaboration with the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS). By bringing together a diverse group of participants, the organizers aim to facilitate meaningful interactions and collaborations that will drive the advancement of statistical science in the Asia Pacific Rim and beyond.
